Community. A single word has never stirred as much emotion for us as this one has over the past month. To see a community in action is to feel it in your core—in your very soul.

Following the Kona storms, our 12th-grade ELA students were asked to reflect on their experiences through journaling. This process unlocked voices that were authentic, unfettered, and raw. We know that words hold the power to heal, transform and even bridge the gaps between us; and within each unique experience shared, a collective whole begins to emerge.

Below are the voices of our students—the future generations of our community. They remind us that we must share our stories to stay connected, just as our ancestors once did and prove that our connection to one another will always be one of our most valuable resources. As you browse this collection from our soon-to-be graduating class, we hope you take a moment to witness their resilience and find your own place within our shared story.
